Trim levels were still the SR5, Sport, and Limited, with the higher trim levels receiving amenities such as automatic climate control, cruise control, power accessories, leather upholstery, and more. A navigation system with a back-up camera became optional in 2005, while all versions of the model received Downhill Assist Control and Hill-Start Assist Control.

The fifth generation of the 4Runner debuted for 2010. Trim levels include the SR5, Trail, and Limited. Two-wheel drive SR5 4Runners are equipped with a 2.7L inline four-cylinder engine good for 157 hp. All other variants are outfitted with a 4.0L V6 that offers up to 270 horsepower, mated to a five-speed automatic transmission. The SR5 and the Limited are both available in rear- or four-wheel drive, while the Trail is equipped with part-time four-wheel drive only.
